Following the launch of APOD Community Ltd and the opening of the new community space in Keswick, South Australia, we’re shining a spotlight on the voices behind this important milestone.
The event marked a new chapter in APOD’s mission to support defence, veteran, and first responder families — and brought together leaders from across government, defence, and business to share their perspectives on the impact and future of the organisation.
Below, hear directly from some of the speakers who helped shape the day.
Paul Broadbridge, CEO of APOD
APOD CEO Paul Broadbridge spoke to the organisation’s evolving role in supporting families through practical, everyday impact.
“APOD connects Defence and veteran families with cost-of-living relief, job opportunities, wellbeing programs, and a growing network of veteran-owned businesses,” he said.
“This office gives us a home, this charity gives us a purpose, and this program gives us a way forward.”
Joe Szakacs
The Minister for Veterans Affairs highlighted the importance of recognising and supporting veteran families through economic resilience and community-focused initiatives.
“Today demonstrates the importance APOD places on supporting veterans through economic and financial resilience,” he said.
“We see the great value that APOD brings to the veterans community, veteran service organisations, and businesses in putting veterans and their families front and centre.”
Craig Keane, Wing Commander, Royal Australian Air Force
Wing Commander Craig Keane shared his perspective on the real-world benefits APOD delivers to defence members and their families.
“There are practical benefits that APOD produces that we can use every day,” he said.
“It’s not just about the dollar saved — it’s about recognition, belonging, and ensuring that the defence and veteran family always feel supported.”
Julie Hall, Senior Manager, CommBank for Veterans
Representing Commonwealth Bank, Julie Hall spoke about the value of partnership and the tangible impact APOD delivers to families.
“The kind of support we get isn’t just about money — it’s a tangible way of saying thank you to the veteran community,” she said.
Adam Barnard, CEO of Spinifex Brewing Co.
Spinifex Brewing Co CEO Adam Barnard reflected on the importance of building lasting connections within the defence community.
“With the help of APOD, we’re building a lasting impact and connection for the Defence community,” he said.
“We’re really excited about this partnership and the opportunities ahead.”
A huge thank you to all our speakers, partners, and the defence, veteran, and first responder community for making this milestone possible. This new chapter — including the community space, upcoming programs, and the APOD Community charity — exists because of your ongoing support, collaboration, and shared commitment.
